Apiary visits & tasting

Come and meet the bees

This isn’t a scripted performance. It’s a chance to talk with a beekeeper beside his hives: how a colony works, what changes through the seasons and why no two honeys taste quite the same. Visitors often mention Erik’s warm welcome and the enthusiasm he brings to sharing his craft.

  1. 1

    At the apiary

We begin at the colourful hives in Draga. Watch the bees coming and going. When conditions and the work at the apiary allow, there may be a chance to look inside an open hive — some visitors have even spotted the queen.

  2. 2

    Inside the bees’ world

Erik introduces the queen, workers and drones, and explains how a colony finds food and survives winter. The conversation also takes in moving hives between forage sites and Slovenia’s beekeeping traditions. Bring your questions; no prior knowledge is needed.

  3. 3

    Find your favourite honey

Taste different honeys, from delicate acacia to rich chestnut, alongside bee pollen and honey liqueur. Comparing them side by side is the best way to discover what you like.

  4. 4

    Stay for the experience

If something takes your fancy, you can buy a jar to bring home. There’s no obligation to buy — the visit is about enjoying the bees and the conversation.
